Wedding Transport
Many couples may not give much thought to how important their choice of wedding transportation is. However, there are many factors you will need to consider not only in your choice of transport but also in how and when you use it.
Firstly you need to look at the various options available to you. These include:
• Vintage cars
• Limo’s
• Private cars
• Horse and carriage
• Luxury car
These are the most popular types of wedding transport although there are a few, more unusual choices as well, including buses, tanks, bicycles and iconic cars such as the VW beetle!
Next you will need to consider your wedding budget to work out how many cars etc you will need and how long you can afford to hire your transport for. You will need transport for the following people:
• The bride and her father
• The bridesmaids and flower girl, page boy
• The mother of the bride and any grandparents
Typically the groom will be driven to the ceremony by the best man, usually in his own car. You will also need to make arrangements for the ushers and any other family members to get to the ceremony.
After the ceremony you will need transport to your reception venue, if it is not in the same location. Here you will need transport for:
• The bride and groom
• The bridesmaids, flower girl, page boy
• The parents of the bride
Depending on your budget it is common to hire two or three vehicles to get you to the ceremony along with the rest of the wedding party. After the ceremony the bride and groom will go to the reception in the car the bride arrived in, whilst the best man will ensure that transport is available for the other members of the wedding party including the parents, bridesmaids and ushers.
In this case there is often space available in other guest’s cars to accommodate these people. However, you may wish to hire the transport for longer to take the members of your wedding party to the reception.
After the reception you will need to think about a ‘going away’ car, especially if you are leaving that night to go on honeymoon. You will also need to make arrangements for the other members of the wedding party to get home!
When thinking about the type of transport you would like you should firstly consider the style of your wedding and whether or not you want your choice of transport to appear in your photographs. You will also need to think about the size of your dress! This may seem silly, however, being squashed into a small car will cause creases in your dress as well as an uncomfortable ride!
You can also save money by hiring a car big enough to accommodate yourself, your father and your bridesmaids which will cut out the need for an extra car. However, unless you want them traveling with you and your new husband to the reception, you will need to organize additional transport for them from the ceremony.
