Planning a Themed Wedding
Themed weddings have grown in popularity over the past few years with more and more couples choosing to adopt a theme for their wedding day. Having a theme for your wedding can be a wonderful way to add something of your own personality to your day and to make it a unique day.
Before you can choose a theme you will need to decide on the style of your wedding. Will it be formal or informal? Will you have a religious or civil ceremony? Once you have decided on the style you can then start thinking about your theme.
A wedding should be a reflection of the bride and groom’s personalities and tastes. After all it is their wedding so it should be all about them! When considering a theme, think about things that you both share a common interest in. It maybe something like sailing, movies or books. Or perhaps you both share an interest in a certain period of history such as the 1920’s or Medieval times. Choosing a theme that you both have an interest in or some knowledge of will not only help you organize it more efficiently, but will also be much easier to inject your own personality into.
After you have chosen your theme you will need to think about your wedding venue, in particular that of your wedding reception. These days there are many choices when it comes to venues, from hotels and grand houses, to vineyards and even a marquee in a garden. What you need to consider is if you can make your chosen theme fit with the venue, if you can decorate the venue accordingly and if it is totally suitable to your needs.
A beach wedding in a mountain retreat would not work; likewise a Hollywood themed wedding wouldn’t work on a beach! So you need to make sure that your venue and your theme can coordinate, otherwise the whole thing could be lost on your guests!
After the venue you will need to consider elements such as colors, decorations, table centers, furniture and even the food and beverages. For instance, a beach theme could have a color scheme of blue and white, serve up seafood and have decorations which incorporated sea shells, fish and starfish in them (ok perhaps a little more fish restaurant than stylish wedding, but you get the idea)!
Your wedding stationery will also need to coordinate with your theme as it is the first glimpse your guests will have of your wedding style and theme. This isn’t too difficult as elements such as color, graphics and even the style of font can all be coordinated to suit.
When it comes to your wedding attire it is entirely up to you how far you take your theme when it comes to your wedding dress and the groom’s suit. Some couples like to have attire that totally matches their theme, for instance a medieval theme, whilst others will choose more modern styles and incorporate their theme through coloured and themed accessories.
Wedding themes are a wonderful way to inject your own personality into your wedding and to make it a unique day for both yourselves and your guests. By coordinating every element of your wedding to a theme you can be sure of creating a stylish wedding that will be remembered by all who attend.
