Creative Wedding Favors
Your wedding favors are an important detail on your wedding day. They are given by the bride and groom to their wedding guests as tokens of thanks for joining them on their special day. They do not need to be anything elaborate or expensive; the key here is something small and inexpensive.
There are many wedding favor shops out there these days and indeed wedding favors have become a million dollar industry spanning the globe. But for many brides there is a need to inject something of their own personality and style into these little gifts and that is often something which cannot be found with mass produced favors.
If you are the creative type then making your own wedding favors is the best of achieving that personal touch. Here are a few ideas for creative wedding favors you could make at home:
Scented Sachets
These are small fabric bags filled with pot pourri or lavender seeds and which can be used as decorative objects, placed inside drawers or hung in closets. Making your own is very simple and all you need is some nice fabric such as silk, linen or satin, your smelly stuff to go inside, some ribbon and a template to cut your fabric by.
Cut two pieces of fabric from the template, sew them right sides together on three sides and turn the right way out. Fill them with your pot pourri and then sew the remaining side up. You can add some pretty trim around the edges, embroidery your initials on the front or paint them with fabric paint and add a ribbon loop so it can be hung up.
Cookies
Custom cookies are all the rage as wedding favors at the moment and little wonder, as these delicious delights can be made in just about any shape going to coordinate to any wedding style and theme. They are however quite expensive per piece so if you are good at baking think about making your own at home.
You don’t even have to produce the pretty iced versions you see in magazines. You could make two or three different flavors of cookies and bake mini cookies as your favors. Give each guest a selection of flavors in a clear cellophane bag tied with ribbon.
Windmills
These are a great idea for a garden or summer themed wedding and many craft stores offer kits so you can make them easily at home. When I say windmills I mean the small versions on sticks that you would get as a kid. You may be able to find a template and instructions to make them online and as a way of personalising them you can write your names, wedding date and thank you message on the insider of the card before folding them up.
Origami
Origami is the Japanese art of paper folding and can be used to achieve many intricate and decorative boxes. Japanese brides would make hundreds of paper cranes before their wedding day to be used as favors and decorations. You can find instructions for making a wealth of origami shapes and objects online and all you will need is some decorative paper and some patience!
Think about making paper flowers, birds or even favor boxes in to which you can put candies or chocolates.
