Choosing Your Bridal Jewelry
Your choice of bridal jewellery is in many ways as important as your wedding dress in terms of the look and symbolism of your wedding. For many brides their jewellery will consist of a treasured necklace or the family pearls.
Your jewellery and other accessories are the last things you should buy after your wedding dress, veil and headpiece have been ordered. Your choice of accessories can make or break your entire look so it is vital that you choose them with care to ensure they compliment rather than compete with your wedding dress.
You also need to make sure your accessories compliment the overall feel, look and style of your wedding. Avoid anything too intricate for an informal beach wedding or anything too modern for a formal, traditional wedding. If you get stuck then it is best to go with instinct and choose something that suits your own personal style.
It is important to choose jewellery with care and to pick something that is not dated in style (this would date you too) or that is too trendy and looks awkward. Bridal jewellery is one area where it is best to play it safe and to stick to the tried and tested diamonds, pearls and the classic timeless looks they offer.
For most brides pearls are the perfect choice. A simple, classic stand of pearls with matching stud earrings can compliment just about any wedding outfit, but you will need to choose the right color to match you wedding dress. Pearls come in a range of natural shades from white through to cream and also in black and peach tones. If your dress is diamond white then choose white pearls, if your dress is ivory or champagne then try to match pearls as closely as possible.
If you don’t like pearls then you will need to find something in gold or silver (either real or plated). Consider your dress when shopping for your jewellery. A dress with a simple bodice would suit a delicate diamond pendant or a classic simply styled pendant. If your dress is embellished with crystals then choose a necklace with crystals to match or consider wearing nothing around your neck at all.
When choosing earrings, diamond studs will flatter everyone and coordinate to just about any style of dress. If your dress is on the simple side then more elaborate chandelier earrings look stunning. Simple pearl studs look lovely with a lower cut dress and with your hair up.
Bracelets can be a little tricky when it comes to wedding dresses. With the addition of the bouquet a bracelet can be lost or become caught up in the foliage. If your dress has short or capped sleeves then a simple pearl or tennis bracelet looks beautiful, but don’t wear a bracelet if your dress has long sleeves.
As a rule the more embellishment and sparkle there is on your wedding dress then the less there should be with your jewellery. It is important to keep your dress in mind at all times and choose jewellery that will not steal the show and over shadow your dress. When looking to purchase multiple pieces of jewellery make sure they compliment rather than provide a match, that is, if your necklace is quite elaborate and sparkly, then choose simple minimalist earrings and vice versa.
