Choosing a Beach Wedding Dress
A beach wedding is wonderful way to hold an informal wedding, however, beach weddings do require some careful consideration when it comes to choosing your wedding dress and accessories.
Beach weddings do not have to mean destination weddings and more and more couples are choosing beach locations local to them. Generally though the same rules for destination beach weddings apply to a beach wedding at home. Your location is likely to be hot, sandy and perhaps subject to a sea breeze which maybe a blessing or a burden! Do not underestimate how hot it maybe in the sunshine and how difficult it can be to walk on sand!
A beach wedding dress should take into account the weather conditions and the location conditions; a large skirted ball gown style dress with a long train would be impractical and probably virtually impossible to walk in down a sandy aisle. Choose a dress which is far simpler and with a much shorter train and you will be far more comfortable throughout the day.
You dont need to opt for a very simple dress if your dream is of a fairytale gown, but you do need to be practical. Choose lightweight fabrics instead of heavy satins and silks and you can open up a whole new choice of wedding dress styles. A full, tulle skirted dress for instance would be ok as the skirt would be light and easy to walk in. Avoid anything tight fitting both in the bodice and skirt as you will find them uncomfortable and difficult to walk in mermaid gowns are a definite no-no!
The informality of a beach wedding can also give you the option of non-bridal dresses such as evening wear, occasion dresses and even summer frocks. Many bridal designers are now producing short tea or knee length wedding dresses as part of their collections and these too could be considered.
You also need to consider your footwear. Avoid high heels there is no way you can walk in sand in 3 heels! Kitten heels possibly, but flat ballet pumps, sandals and even bridal style flip flops would be a better choice. Some brides even go bare foot.
Veils could prove to be more of a burden than a beautiful accessory. That strong sea breeze could see you constantly pushing it back off your face and your wedding photographs will not look great if your face is totally obscured by a large white veil! Short veils which are no longer than shoulder length and which are not very full can be considered if you really want a veil.
