Bridal Hair Accessories

After choosing your wedding dress and shoes, comes the fun part of choosing your accessories. Possibly the most important of these will be your hair accessories which often provide the ‘crowning glory’ to your entire wedding outfit!

Here is a brief guide to the different styles of hair accessory you can expect find for your wedding day:

• Tiara – probably the best know hair accessory and the most widely used. Tiaras are unlikely to ever go out of style and provide the perfect Cinderella look to your wedding outfit. Usually they are worn high on the head and can range in style from elaborate crystal beaded creations to elegant pearl encrusted designs. They can however be one of the most expensive hair accessories so keep your budget in mind when shopping for one.
• Wreath – a wreath will encircle the head or can wrap around a bun. Often full head versions are made from fresh flowers, while smaller versions can be beaded with crystals and pearls.
• Coronet – these are usually made from fabric and lace and will sit high on the head. They are the perfect accompaniment to a veil.
• Hair jewels – these come in many forms, but usually consist of simple slides, pins or clips encrusted with beads, pearls and crystals. Small combs are also considered as hair jewelry.
• Headband – for a simple hair accessory the headband or Alice band is perfect. They can be plain fabric versions or incorporate beads and pearls.
• Juliet cap – this is a cap that fits on the crown of the head and is often decorated with pearls and beads.
• Picture hat – for a sense of drama a hat with a large brim is perfect. Choose a plain and simple style for a beach wedding or something decorated with pearls and beads for a formal wedding.
• Pillbox hat – for 60’s appeal choose the simple pillbox. These are brimless, small hats which sit on the top of the head.
• Combs – if a tiara doesn’t suit or your budget is too tight a comb can be a good option. They can be worn on the front, side or back of the head making them very versatile.
• Snood – if you are having a bun hairstyle then a snood will sit over the top of the bun. They are usually net like in design with added beads, sequins and pearls.

When choosing your headpiece try to keep your personal style in mind, as well as your intended hairdo. Face shape is also important, for instance, if your face is long and narrow then a headpiece which widens your face such as a headband, wreath or picture hat will look best. If your face is round and full then add height with a tiara, coronet or pillbox hat.
