A Grooms Guide to Wedding Attire
As the groom you may be thinking ‘I just need a suit right?’ Wrong! You need a wedding suit and accessories that will make your bride proud and which will suit the style and theme of your wedding day.
Here are ten tips to ensure you make the right choices for your wedding attire.
1. Make sure you include the colour scheme in your accessories and outfit. The bride would normally choose the colours for the wedding so find out what they are first! Items such as waistcoats, ties, cravats and handkerchiefs can all be colour coordinated.
2. Are you having a theme? What about your wedding style? Would traditional top hat and tails be the perfect fit with your wedding style? Or a James Bond style tuxedo be the right choice for your wedding theme? If you are stuck on either, then consider your venue, it is considered cool to choose an outfit in keeping with your venue.
3. What about appearance? Do you want ultra-formal, relaxed or just a smarter version of yourself? Take you features into account too such as height, build, hair and skin colour.
4. The quality of what you buy or hire is also important. Whilst price is a major deciding factor these days, a cheap suit will look just that and your attire will need to be comfortable as you will be wearing it for over 12 hours.
5. Organise your suit yourself and that of your best man and other members of the wedding party. This will take some of the pressure off your bride-to-be and prove to her that you are interested in this wedding after all!
6. You will also need matching suits for your best man, ushers, father-of-the-bride and your father. You may also need to find an outfit for the page boy if you are having one. Try to get everyone together for a fitting session so you can see how you all look together as a group.
7. Accessories aren’t just for girls; guys have a good range to choose from too! Things such as cuff links, tie pins, ties, cravats, bow ties, waistcoats and handkerchiefs.
8. Ensure your attire is the perfect fit by choosing an outfitter that offers a measuring service and can give you professional advice.
9. Shoes are one area that guys think about the least but they are one of the most important. Wear the wrong shoes and it can let the rest of your outfit down. If your suits are coordinated then make sure you have the same shoes as well. If that isn’t possible then specify a certain style and colour to the other members of the group such as black brogues or brown lace-ups.
10. Make sure you set aside a decent portion of the wedding budget for your wedding attire. It is often the case that there are more men to dress for a wedding than women so make sure there is an equal amount of cash set aside for the boys when working out your budget!
