Choosing the Date

When choosing a date take into consideration things such as will guests need to travel to be there? do you have fixed holidays which will effect when you can have your honeymoon, availability of the bridal party etc. Getting married during a football final, Melbourne Cup day or other event will not make you impress your guests so try and take these into account as well.

Once you have an approximate date, begin looking at reception and ceremony venues. This is normally the hard part and other things such as cars, florists etc. can be booked around it.

Popular Dates
  • Valentine Day, February 14th.
  • May Day, May 1st represents love and courtship.
  • Chinese New Year (late January or early February) represents good luck and new beginnings.

Dates to Avoid

  • April Fools Day, April 1st. Don't be a fool!
  • Good Friday is a sober time for mourning and reflection.
  • Anzac Day, April 25th. Is a day to observe the respect for fallen war heroes.
  • Yom Kippur, October 6th. Is a holy time for Jews to ask forgiveness and grieve.
  • Ramadan, October 16th. Is a time for atonement and abstaining for Muslims.
  • New Years Eve, December 31st. Everything is packed, it is much easier to be partying with friends than focussing on a wedding.
