The best man is normally the brother or best
mate of the groom.
Duties include;
Before the wedding....

attending all pre
wedding parties (except hens and kitchen tea)

organising the buck's
night

arriving at the wedding
venue around an hour before the ceremony

assist the groom
with hiring of the suits for the men in the bridal party

collect and delivery
(if necessary) the bride's bouquet and flowers for the bridesmaids
-
checking and confirming
any last minute details for the honeymoon
At the ceremony...
-
standing next to the groom during the ceremony.

escort the chief bridesmaids out after the
ceremony
-
if there is no ring bearer the best man
looks after the brides ring and hands it to the groom when
necessary
-
ensure guests have directions to the reception
venue
At the reception...
-
deliver the first toast to the couple and
read any faxes or telegrams
-
sit at the bridal table alternately with
the bridesmaids
-
mingle and dance with guests (and ensure
that the other groomsmen are in a fit state to do so.
